A 100-mL round-bottomed flask was charged with 4-methyl-1-(4-(trifluoromethyl)phenyl)-3,4-dihydroisoquinoline (4.89 g, 16.9 mmol) and MeOH (30 mL). After cooling down to 0° C., sodium borohydride (1.93 g, 50.7 mmol) was added and the mixture was stirred at RT for 45 min. Then, the solvent was removed and the residue redissolved in EtOAc, washed with sat NaHCO3, water and dried over Na2SO4. The mixture was used crude in the next step.
