A mixture of 2,4,5-trimethylthiazole (640 mg, 5 mmol) and 1-bromo-3,3-dimethylbutan-2-one (1.8 g, 10 mmol) in anhydrous acetonitrile (20 mL) was stirred at 60° C. for 5 h. The mixture was then concentrated under reduced pressure, the residue was triturated with anhydrous ethyl ether and the solid was filtered and dried under reduced pressure to provide 1.4 g of the crude title compound.
