A mixture of 2.5 g (10.43 mmol) of methyl 6-chloro-4-(trifluoromethyl)nicotinate and 18.4 ml (146 mmol) of a 40% solution of dimethylamine in water is heated at 100° C. for 1 hour. A precipitate is subsequently collected by filtering the cooled mixture and is washed with 150 ml of water. After drying under reduced pressure, 2.3 g of the expected compound are isolated.
