tert-Butyl 2-(2-(2-methoxy-2-oxo-1-phenylethoxy)ethylidene)hydrazinecarboxylate (4.7 g, 14.6 mmol) in MeOH (175 mL) was hydrogenated at 3.5 bar and 30° C. for 20 hours in a Parr bottle in the presence of Raney-nickel (4.69 g, 37.2 mmol). The reaction mixture was filtered and washed with MeOH. The solvent was evaporated to give the title compound as brown oil (4.5 g, 95%) that was used crude for the next reaction.
