Reaction Steps

To the solution of 3-(tetrahydro-2H-pyran-3-yl)propan-1-ol (10.35 g, 0.0719 mol) in CH2Cl2 (200 mL) was added Dess-Martin periodinane (61.24 g, 0.1438 mol). The mixture was stirred at rt. When the reaction was over, the solution was poured into Et2O (300 mL) and anhydrous K2CO3 (19.84 g, 0.1438 mol) was added. The mixture was filtered and the filtrate was dried over Na2SO4, and concentrated in vacuo to give the crude product, which was purified through column chromatography to give 3-(tetrahydro-2H-pyran-3-yl)propanal (8.25 g, 80%).
