A mixture of 3-[3-(trifluoromethoxy)phenyl]-1-benzofuran-5-carbohydrazide (3.00 g, 8.92 mmol) and 2-chloro-1,1,1-trimethoxyethane (4.70 mL, 24.4 mmol) was stirred at 80° C. for 3 hr. The reaction mixture was purified by silica gel column chromatography (hexane/ethyl acetate=1/1) and recrystallized from hexane/ethyl acetate to give the title compound (2.39 g, yield 68%) as colorless crystals.
