Reaction Steps

20.0 g (1 equivalent) of metformin hydrochloride and 30 Ml of water, and then 10 Ml (1.45 equivalents) of acetic acid were added to a reactor, and stirred for 2 hours at 30° C. to dissolve thoroughly. Then 1.23 g (1.5 equivalents) of aqueous solution of sodium hydroxide was added to the reaction solution. The resulting crystal was filtered and washed with acetone, and then dried at 60° C. to obtain 16.7 g of metformin acetate (yield: 73.0%).
