To a solution of 2-(tert-butoxycarbonylamino)-4-methylthiazole-5-carboxylic acid benzylamide (0.108 g, 0.31 mmol) in acetonitrile (10 mL) was added N-bromosuccinimide (0.071 g, 0.40 mmol). The resultant mixture was stirred at ambient temperature until the reaction was completed. The reaction mixture was concentrated in vacuo and the crude product was purified by flash column chromatography eluting with ethyl acetate/hexanes (5/95 to 100/0) to afford 2-(tert-butoxycarbonylamino)-4-bromomethylthiazole-5-carboxylic acid benzylamide (0.077 g, 58% yield).
