An ethanol (10 ml) solution of 3-(R)-[1-tert-butoxycarbonylamino-1-(2-furyl)methyl]-1-benzyloxycarbonylpyrrolidine [F1] (507 mg, 1.37 tool) was mixed with 10% palladium-carbon catalyst (53.8% moisture, 500 mg), and catalytic hydrogenation was carried out at room temperature for 4 hours under ordinary pressure. The reaction solution was filtered and the solvent of the filtrate was evaporated under a reduced pressure to obtain 358 mg of the crude title compound as colorless crystals. This was used in the subsequent reaction without purification.
