Reaction Steps
Catalytic reduction of 2-(2-formamido-5-methoxyphenethyl)-1-methylpyridinium iodide as described in Example 1 for 2-(o-nitrostyryl)-1-methylpyridinium iodide provides 2-(2-formamido-5-methoxyphenethyl)-1methylpiperidine. This material is deformylated in 1N methanolic hydrogen chloride providing 2-(2-amino-5-methoxyphenethyl)-1-methylpiperidine.
