Procedure
This example illustrates methods of preparing the maleate addition salts of compounds of formula II. In this example 1 gram of 1-t-butylamino-3-[5-(5-methylhex-3-ynylaminocarbonyl)thiazol-2-yloxy]-propan-2-ol is dissolved in a solution of 5 ml. of ethyl ether and 5 ml. of ethanol at 20° C. To this solution is added 10 ml. of a saturated solution of maleic acid is ethyl ether. The mixture is allowed to stand for one hour at room temperature. The resulting precipitate is recovered by filtration, washed three times with ethyl ether and then crystallized from a mixture of ethyl ether and ethanol (1:1) affording crystalline 1-t-butylamino-3-[5-(5-methylhex-3-ynylaminocarbonyl)thiazol-2-yloxy]-propan-2-ol maleate, m.p. 174°-175° C.
