A mixture of 0.5 g (1.4 mmol) of 9-chloro-3-methyl-7-phenyl-5H-pyrimido[4,5-d][2]benzazepin-1(2H)-one 6-oxide and 10 mL of acetic anhydride was heated on a steam bath for 3 hr. The reaction mixture was concentrated at reduced pressure and the crystalline product separated. Recrystallization from methylene chloride gave the product as cream colored crystals, mp >320°.
