37.4 g of 5,6-diamino-1-pentyl-2,4-(1H,3H)-pyrimidinedione (XXXIX) was refluxed in 50 ml of formic acid for 2 h. 50 ml of chloroform was added and ether was then added slowly. The received crystals were filtered off. Yield 36.8 g. The amide was refluxed in 50 ml of 5N NaOH for 2 hours and then neutralized with 5N HCl. The crystals were filtered off and recrystallized from 1.8 l of ethanol. Yield 18.3 g (XXXVIII) NMR (see Table I).
