Procedure
A mixture of ethyl 3-[(2-aminophenyl)amino]-4-chloro-1-methyl-1H-pyrrole-2-carboxylate (27.4 g, 0.0933 mol) and 85% phosphoric acid (90 ml) is heated to 110° C. under water jet vacuum for 2 hours with stirring. While still hot, the reaction mixture is then stirred into ice water (1 liter) and adjusted to pH 6 with aqueous ammonia solution. The solid obtained (23.0 g) melted at 172°-175° C. after recrystallisation from acetonitrile.
