Reaction Steps

8.3 g of 4-acetyl-1-benzyl-4-tert-butylcarbamoyloxypiperidine are refluxed in 100 ml of an ethanolic sodium ethoxide solution of 0.1 mole/liter concentration under stirring for 3 to 4 hours. After cooling down and adding 10% by weight aqueous ammonium chloride solution to the reaction mixture the most part of the solvent is distilled off under reduced pressure. After adding water to the residue the precipitate is filtered off, washed to chloride-free with water, dried and finally recrystallized from benzene to give the title compound in 78% yield, m.p.: 179°-181° C.
