Procedure

4.0 g of 8-benzyl-3-decyl-4-methylene-2-oxo-1-oxa-3,8-diazaspiro[4,5]decane are stirred together with 4.0 g of 10% by weight palladium-on-carbon catalyst in 40 ml of 50% aqueous formic acid for 2 hours at room temperature. After filtering off the catalyst the solution is evaporated under reduced pressure, the residue is treated with aqueous sodium hydrogen carbonate solution and the solid product is filtered off. After recrystallizing this product from a mixture of chloroform with n-hexane the title substance is obtained in 78.0% yield, m.p. 139°-140° C.
