Reaction Steps
To a solution of methyl 2,3,4-tri-O-benzyl-6-deoxy-7-O-methylsulfonyl-α-D-glucoheptopyranoside (0.38 g, 0.83 mmol) in dry methylene chloride (10 mL) was added triethylamine (0.2 mL, 1.43 mmol). Then the solution was cooled to -10° C. and mesylchloride (0.08 mL), 1 mmol) was added. The mixture was stirred an additional 15 min at -10° C., then the reaction was allowed to warm up to room temperature. The mixture was washed three times with water. The organic phase was dried over sodium sulfate, filtered and concentrated under reduced pressure to afford a yellow oil. Flash chromatography on silica gel and elution with a 40:60 mixture of ethyl acetate and hexane afforded the expected mesylate methyl 2,3,4-tri-O-benzyl-6-deoxy-7-O-methylsulfonyl-α-D-glucoheptopyranoside as an oil (0.38 g, 91%).
