4-Benzyloxy-3-methoxyphenylacetyl chloride, prepared as described in Example 4, and 4-aminomethyl-2H-1-benzopyran, prepared as described in Step 1 of Example 136, were condensed as described in Step 1 of Example 6 to give the lactam, N-(4-benzyloxy-3-methoxyphenylacetyl)-4-aminomethyl-2H-1-benzopyran.
