Reaction Steps
40 ml of ethanol are added dropwise at 20° C. and with stirring to 20 g (0.12 mol) of 2-fluoro-1-methylcyclopropane-carbonyl chloride (cis/trans mixture). After the addition of 2 drops of concentrated sulphuric acid, the reaction mixture is refluxed for one hour. Excess ethanol is subsequently distilled off, and the residue is dried and distilled under reduced pressure. In this manner, 18.4 g (85% of theory) of ethyl 2-fluoro-1-methyl-cyclopropanecarboxylate (cis/trans mixture) are obtained in the form of a liquid of boiling point 42-45° C. at 18 mbar.
