To a solution of 5-ethyl-6-nitroindoline (1.9 g, 9.9 mmol) in CH2Cl2 (30 mL) was added MnO2 (4.0 g, 46 mmol). The mixture was stirred at ambient temperature for 8 h. The solid was filtered off and the filtrate was concentrated to dryness to give 5-ethyl-6-nitro-1H-indole (1.9 g).
