In a 100 ml round-bottomed flask equipped with a magnetic stirrer, compound 3 (7.26 gr, 22.9 mmol) was suspended in water (30 ml) and 2N NaOH (11.45 ml, 22.9 mol) was slowly added. The resulting dark red solution was stirred for 1 h at room temperature, filtered on a 0.45μ filter and freeze dried. Pure sodium (2S)-2-(4-{[4-(trifluoromethyl)-1,3-thiazol-2-yl]amino}phenyl)propanoate 3a (7.51 g, 22.2 mmol) was obtained as white solid (97%). m.p. 142°-145° C. [α]D=−8.7 (c=0.62; CH3OH); 1H-NMR (D2O): δ 9.00 (bs, 1H, NH), 7.30 (m, 4H), 7.28 (s, 1H), 3.55 (q, 1H, J=7 Hz), 1.35 (d, 3H, J=7 Hz).
