Thionyl chloride (2.0 g, 16.8 mmol) was added to a suspension of benzyl 5-(hydroxymethyl)-2,3-dihydro-1H-inden-1-ylcarbamate (2.53 g, 8.5 mmol) in DCM (35 mL). The solution was stirred at rt for 1 h before the reaction mixture was evaporated to dryness in vacuo and the material was co-evaporated with diethyl ether (2×100 mL) to afford the title compound as a white solid (2.63 g, 98%). MS (ESI): m/z [M+NH4]+ 333.2
