Reaction Steps
To a solution of tert-butyl 4-hydroxypiperidine-1-carboxylate (4.0 g, 20.0 mmol) and triethylamine (4.0 g, 40 mmol) in dichloromethane (50 mL) was added methanesulfonyl chloride (2.8 g, 24.4 mmol) at 0° C. The solution was stirred at 0° C. for 10 min, then at room temperature for 2 h. The reaction mixture was partitioned between 10% citric acid and ethyl acetate. The organic layer was washed with sodium bicarbonate, and brine, dried over sodium sulfate, filtered and concentrated to give tert-butyl 4-(methylsulfonyloxy)piperidine-1-carboxylate (6.4 g, quantitative yield). MS (EI) for C11H21NO5S: 279 (M+).
