A mixture of 1,1-dimethylethyl 7-(6-amino-5-nitropyridin-3-yl)-2,3-dihydro-1,4-benzoxazepine-4(5H)-carboxylate (0.58 g, 1.5 mmol), palladium (10% on charcoal, 0.50 g) and methanol (30 mL) was hydrogenated in a Parr apparatus at 45 psi for 18 hours. The mixture was filtered then concentrated and dried to give 1,1-dimethylethyl 7-(5,6-diaminopyridin-3-yl)-2,3-dihydro-1,4-benzoxazepine-4(5H)-carboxylate (0.51 g, 96% yield), MS (EI) for C19H24N4O3: 357 (MH+).
