A solution of methyl 4-{[3-(trifluoromethyl)benzyl]amino}quinazoline-8-carboxylate (95 mg, 0.26 mmol) in 5 mL of MeOH was treated with 2N NaOH (650 μL, 1.3 mmol, 5 equiv.) under refluxing for 5 h. After removal of MeOH, water was added to the residue and pH was adjusted to ˜4 with 2N HCl. The precipitate was collected as the desired acid by filtration, and washing with water in 89% yield. 1HNMR (in DMSO): 4.96 (d, J=5.8 Hz, 2H), 7.56-7.61 (m, 1H), 7.64 (d, J=7.7 Hz, 1H), 7.70 (d, J=7.7 Hz, 1H), 7.74-7.78 (m, 2H), 8.54 (dd, J=1.2 and 7.4 Hz, 1H), 8.63 (dd, J=1.2 and 7.3 Hz, 1H), 8.69 (s, 1H), 9.68 (d, J=5.8 Hz, 1H). Mass: M+H+: 348.
