A mixture of 5-formyl-2-{[3-(trifluoromethyl)phenyl]oxy}benzonitrile (1 g, 3.43 mmol) and NaBH4 (0.156 g, 4.12 mmol) in ethanol (20 mL) was stirred at room temperature for 3 h. The reaction was quenched with NH4Cl saturated solution and extracted with EA. The organic layer was separated and concentrated to afford the title compound (0.9 g, 89% yield) as a white solid. LCMS: rt=3.71 min
