Procedure
A mixture of 2.5 g of 1,5-dihydro-5-hydroxy-2H-pyrrol-2-one in 75 cm3 of 1-butanol and 1.3 g of Amberlite IR 120 H is heated to 70° C. for 2 hours. After allowing to return to ambient temperature, the residue is filtered and the solvent is evaporated under reduced pressure. 3.9 g of the expected product is obtained.
