Procedure

Fifty ml of an acetic acid solution containing 2.0 g of N-(2-cyclohexylidenemethyl-4-nitrophenyl)methanesulfonamide obtained in Example 14 and 0.1 g of platinum oxide was subjected to catalystic reduction under a hydrogen atmosphere at room temperature with stirring. The catalyst was removed by filtration, and the filtrate was concentrated, neutralized with a saturated aqueous sodium hydrogen carbonate solution and extracted with ethyl acetate. The ethyl acetate layer was washed, in turn, with water and a saturated aqueous sodium chloride solution and dried over anhydrous magnesium sulfate. Evaporation of the solvent gave 1.7 g of N-(4-amino-2-cyclohexylmethylphenyl)methanesulfonamide.
