Reaction Steps
A mixture of 3-amino-5-methoxycarbonyl-s-triazole (60 g) and ethyl 3-oxo-4-methylvalerate (65 g) in 600 ml of acetic acid was refluxed for five hours, the reaction mixture was cooled to room temperature, its pH was lowered to 1 to 2 with concentrated hydrochloric acid, and the separated crystals were recrystallized from ethanol, affording 54 g of the objective compound as colorless crystals.
