A mixture of 2-pentadecynal diethyl acetal (4 g) and 10% aqueous H2SO4 (60 ml) was refluxed with efficient stirring, for one hour. An additional 40 ml dilute H2SO4 was added at this stage and the mixture heated for another two hours. After cooling, the reaction mixture was extracted with CH2Cl2, the extract dried (Na2SO4) and evaporated in vacuo to provide a yellow oil. Yield: 2.9 g.
