A procedure similar to that used to prepare compound 159 was used except that (3S,5S)-3-Hydroxymethyl-5-methyl-decanoic acid tert-butyl ester 167 (4.164 g, 15.29 mmol) was used as a reactant to give 168 as an oil (4.17 g, 64%). 1H NMR (400 MHz, CDCl3) δ7.75 (d, J=8.30 Hz, 2H), 7.31 (d, J=8.30 Hz, 2H), 3.97 (dd, J=9.52, 4.15 Hz, 1H), 3.90 (dd, J=9.52, 5.13 Hz, 1H), 2.42 (s, 3H), 2.28, 2.19-2.13 (m, 2H), 1.37 (s, 9H), 1.27-1.01 (m, 11H), 0.85 (t, J=7.08 Hz, 3H), 0.76 (d, J=6.35 Hz, 3H).
