A mixture of 5-(3-tert-butoxycarbonylamino-prop-1-ynyl)-thiophene-2-carboxylic acid methyl ester (2.06 g) and 10% palladium on carbon (1.03 g) in 50 mL MeOH was hydrogenated on a Parr shaker at 50 psi H2 for 16 h. The reaction was filtered through Celite with the aid of MeOH and the filtrate was concentrated in vacuo to afford the title compound as a solid (1.93 g). MS 317 (M+18).
