A solution of 1,7,8,9-tetrahydro-8-methyl-2H-pyrrolo[3,4-f]quinoxaline-2,3(4H)-dione in chlorosulfonic acid was stirred at 120° C. for 3 hours, whereafter it was cooled and poured on ice. This afforded a crystalline precipitate of the product, which was filtered off and washed with water, mp>300° C.
