To a mixture of 10 g of (2,6-dimethoxy-4-methylphenyl) (2-methylaminophenyl) ketone in 100 ml of dichloromethane and 20 ml of water, cooled to -10° C., are added dropwise 6.34 g of bromoacetyl chloride in 20 dichloromethane. The reaction mixture is allowed to return to room temperature and is then stirred vigorously for 2 hours. The phases are separated after settling has taken place and the organic phase is successively washed with water, dried over sodium sulphate and evaporated to dryness to give beige crystals melting at 121° C.; Yield=99%.
