Reaction Steps

A solution of 3-bromo-1,3,4,5,6,7-hexahydro-1-benzazonin-2-one (14.2 g) and sodium azide (7.1 g) in dimethylsulfoxide (400 ml) is maintained at 80° under an atmosphere of nitrogen for 3 hours. The reaction mixture is poured into ice/water (1200 ml) and the suspension is stirred for 30 minutes. The solid is filtered off, washed with water (300 ml) and dried to give 3-azido-1,3,4,5,6,7-hexahydro-1-benzazonin-2-one.
