To a suspension of 0.102 g of 6-acetyl-2-butyl-4(1H)quinazolinone in 10.0 ml of ethanol is added 0.015 g of sodium borohydride. The reaction mixture is stirred for 1.5 hours at room temperature and then diluted with 50 ml of water. The aqueous layer is extracted with 5:1 chloroform-methanol and the combined organics dried over magnesium sulfate, filtered and concentrated in vacuo to yield 0.103 g of the desired product.
