To a solution of 6-ethylsulfonylamino-3-[4-(4-phenyl-1,2,3,6-tetrahydropyridin-1-yl)butyl]-1,2,3,4-tetrahydroquinazoline-2,4-dione (40.9 g) in 10% methanol in chloroform (800 ml) was added a solution of sulfuric acid (10.1 g) in methanol (100 ml) over 15 minutes at 25° C. After evaporation of the solvent, the crystalline residue was recrystallized from 10% water in acetonitrile (600 ml) to give 6-ethylsulfonylamino-3-[4-(4-phenyl-1,2,3,6=tetrahydropyridin-1-yl)butyl]-1,2,3,4=tetrahydroquinazoline-2,4-dione sulfate (39.2 g) as pale brown crystals.
