Part A: To a stirred solution of chlorosulfonyl isocyanate (1.73 mL, 20 mmol) in dry dichloromethane (20 mL) is very slowly added a solution of 3-(4-chlorophenyl)-4-phenyl-4,5-dihydro-1H-pyrazole (5.13 gram, 20 mmol) in dry dichloromethane (125 mL) at −5° C. After stirring for 30 minutes the reaction mixture is allowed to attain room temperature and stirred for another 2 hours. After cooling to 0° C. liquid dimethylamine (5 mL) is added and the resulting solution is stirred for another hour at 0° C. and for 2 hours at room temperature. The solution is washed with water, filtered over hyflo and concentrated in vacuo. Flash chromatography (MTBE, Rf˜0.3) gives 3-(4-chlorophenyl)-N-((dimethylamino)sulfonyl)-4-phenyl-4,5-dihydro-1H-pyrazole-1-carboxamide (4.75 g, 58%). MP: 210-212° C.
