To a solution of (2S,4S)-1-benzyl-4-[methyl-(2,2,2-trichloro-ethoxycarbonyl)-amino]-pyrrolidine-2-carboxylic acid methyl ester (6.4 mmol) in 18 mL of THF and 12 mL of methanol was added a solution of NaOH (12.8 mmol) in 10 mL water, and the reaction mixture was stirred overnight. The solution was diluted with 40 mL of water and extracted with 20 mL of EA. The aqueous layer was separated and acidified with 2N HCl to PH=5-6. Then the solution was extracted with EA (3×40 mL). The combined organic layers were washed by brine (20 mL), dried over Na2SO4, and concentrated to give 2.6 g of title product in 91% yield. MS m/e=410.4 [M+H]+.
