Ethyl 6-(4-fluorophenyl)-2-(bromomethyl)nicotinate (D85) (38 mg, 0.11 mmol) was treated with sodium methoxide (18 mg, 0.34 mmol) in methanol (1 ml) at room temperature for 1 h. 2M Sodium hydroxide solution was then added and the solution stirred for 1 h. The mixture was diluted with water and extracted with EtOAc which was dried over MgSO4 and concentrated in vacuo to give the title compound as a white solid (19 mg). MS(ES): MH+ 262, M-H+ 260.
