Reaction Steps

10.2 g of the compound obtained in Step 3 dissolved in 200 ml of tetrahydrofuran are slowly added to a solution of 5 g of AlLiH4 in 300 ml of tetrahydrofuran. After refluxing for 2 hours, the reaction mixture is cooled to 5° C. and 10.7 ml of water, 10.7 ml of 4N sodium hydroxide and then 32.1 ml of water are added. After filtering and concentrating under reduced pressure, chromatography over silica gel (dichloromethane/methanol: 95/5) allows the expected product to be isolated, which is converted into its hydrochloride form by the action of a solution of hydrochloric acid in dioxane.
