A solution of 3-chloroperbenzoic acid (ca. 70%, 0.53 g, 2.1 mmol) in chloroform (10 ml) was added dropwise to a solution of 2-{6-[(4-methylphenyl)sulfinyl]-2-pyridyl}-4H-1,3-benzothiazine-4-one (0.35 g, 1.0 mmol) in chloroform (50 ml) with stirring. The reaction mixture was stirred at room temperature for 5 hrs and concentrated under reduced pressure. The residue was subjected to a silica gel column chromatography, eluted with hexane-ethyl acetate (1:1, v/v) and recrystallized from ethanol to give the titled compound (0.25 g, 64%) as crystals.
