Reaction Steps

N,N′-di-sec-butylidene-[diethyl(methyl)-1,3-benzenediamine] (28 g) and Pt(S)/C (2.8 g) were added to acetone (30 g) in an autoclave. The closed autoclave was purged 3 times with 125 psig (9.63×105 Pa) of H2 at 22° C. The mixture was kept at 21° C. and 125 psi (8.62×105 Pa) of H2 for 12 hours, forming the corresponding N,N′-di-sec-butyl-[diethyl(methyl)-1,3-benzenediamine] quantitatively.
