Potassium hydroxide (5.10 g, 91.98 mmol) was added to a solution of the product of example 1 (1.959, 4.60 mmol) in 3-methyl-3-pentanol (40 mL) and the mixture was heated under reflux for 24 hours. The reaction mixture was then cooled to room temperature, concentrated in vacuo and the residue was partitioned between ethyl acetate (70 mL) and water (40 mL). The aqueous layer was separated, extracted with ethyl acetate (50 mL) and the combined organic solution was dried over sodium sulfate and concentrated in vacuo. The residue was then re-crystallised from hexane/ethyl acetate and dried under vacuum for 18 hours to afford the title compound as a white solid in 82% yield, 1.66 g.
