Procedure

To a solution of Example 102 (0.150 g, 0.36 mmol) in DCM was added NaBH4 (0.069 g, 1.81 mmol) under nitrogen atmosphere at 0° C. The reaction mixture temperature was raised to room temperature and continued stirring for 3 hr. The progress of the reaction was monitored by TLC and upon completion, the mixture was partitioned between DCM (25 mL) and water (15 mL) and the organic layer was separated, dried over Na2SO4 filtered and the solvent was removed under reduced pressure to give crude residue, which was purified by column chromatography using silica gel to provide methyl-2-{8-[4-(hydroxymethyl)phenyl]-1,3,4,5-tetrahydro-2H-pyrido[4,3-b]indol-2-yl}pyrimidine-5-carboxylate (0.050 g, 33.2%).
