Procedure

To a solution of (1-(2-nitro-4-(trifluoromethyl)phenyl)-1H-imidazol-4-yl)methanol (167 mg, 0.58 mmol) in EtOH (10 mL) was added a slurry of Raney Nickel (500 mg, washed, wet). The mixture was allowed to stir at room temperature overnight. Upon completion, the reaction mixture was filtered through Celite and concentrated to afford (1-(2-amino-4-(trifluoromethyl)phenyl)-1H-imidazol-4-yl)methanol. MS m/z=258 [M+H]+. Calc'd for C11H10F3N3O: 257.
