A solution of 5-(4′-bromomethylbiphenyl-2-yl)-1-trityl-1H-tetrazole made as described in Preparation 1 (9.7 g, 17.4 mmol), (2S)-2-aminopropan-1-ol (3.9 g, 52.3 mmol), and potassium carbonate (2.4 g, 17.4 mmol), in THF (170 mL) was stirred at room temperature overnight. Water (100 mL) was added, and the aqueous phase was extracted with EtOAc (3×100 mL). The combined organic extracts were dried over MgSO4, filtered, and concentrated in vacuo. Silica gel chromatography gave intermediate (5a).
