Reaction Steps

Add NaI (1.10 equiv., 30 mg, 0.20 mmol) to bisazaindole 17 (93 mg, 0.182 mmol) in 2-butanone (10 mL). After 16 h of reflux, the reaction mixture is concentrated under vacuum and the residue is dissolved in EtOAc (100 mL), washed with brine, dried (MgSO4) and concentrated, to give 18 (105 mg, 91%) as an ivory-colored solid: TLC (EtOAc at 40%/heptane) Rf=0.08, m/z obs.=604 (M+1).
