To a solution of 4-(benzyloxycarbonyl-methyl-amino)-piperidine-1-carboxylic acid tert-butyl ester (5 g, 0.014 mmol) in MeOH (30 ml) was added under an inert atmosphere 10% Pd/C (500 mg). H2 was bubbled through the resulting suspension for 2 hrs. The reaction mixture was then stirred under 1 atm. of H2 for 2 hrs. Pd/C was filtered off and the solvent was removed under reduced pressure to give the expected 4-methylamino-piperidine-1-carboxylic acid tert-butyl ester (3.08 g, quant.).
