Reaction Steps

To a mixture of 1-(benzyloxymethyl)cyclopropanesulfonate (13 mmol, 3.88 g) in DME (40 mL) and H2O (40 mL), KSCN (13.65 mmol, 1.33 g) was added at 23° C. and the resulting reaction mixture was refluxed for 15 h. Reaction mixture was cooled to 23° C. and diluted with H2O and ethyl acetate. Organic layer was separated and the aqueous layer was concentrated under reduced pressure to provide the crude potassium 1-(benzyloxymethyl)cyclopropanesulfonate which was used directly in the next step without additional purification.
